Hey All - I have offers from three companies: Block, Microsoft, and Walmart. Block is fully remote, other two are hybrid. Which would you choose if solving for resume strength and long term career prospects? You can assume the positions and scope of roles are similar. Offers are all about the same in terms of TC (~240). Thanks! 7 YOE, TPM - Current TC = $0 (lay-off)

Modi is a legend, will be remembered for centuries to come
Block is by far the top choice
What location? would lean towards Microsoft because many ex TPMs from there I know ended up at FANG
Why do you care about FANG anymore? Apple is sinking. Meanwhile Microsoft is spearheading the AI revolution.
We're not spearheading shit. Nothing has been monetized. Stop lying to people.
Damn, y’all really don’t like Walmart
"I work at Walmart" will never sound good. Like IT at McDonalds
Who cares if you get paid
If full remote is essential to you then choose accordingly. That said hybrid at MSFT is the new trend. MSFT will offer more opportunities in the long run.
Exactly. Only reason to choose Block is to be fully remote. Otherwise it’s Microsoft without question
If offers are similar, I prefer large company over startup because of the salary per unit of work.
And which one from the OP's list is a startup?
Hey, had to make a similar choice and chose Block over MS
Thanks! How do you feel about your choice?
Overall pretty content. There are some chaotic changes happening at the company and seem to be settling down, but apart from that I love my manager and team, pay is better than MS, full remote, equivalent benefits, and better name on resume imo because MS hiring bar felt low to me. Hope that helps!
I’m at Block, but considering Handshake oddly enough. It really depends what part of the org you’re in, but there has been a ton of org changes on Square side. Overall the people are great, but there’s a lot of silos and imo not enough focus on some of the basics, ie testing, data quality, etc. What’s the current state of things at Handshake?
Ha - Handshake is messy, too. Sounds similar :)
Is this eng offers? Seems low
Does Walmart pay as other tech companies? Is it really that bad lol
I think it really depends. I know a number of people who made a Twitter/Amazon/MSFT -> Walmart move and have been compensated at 75-90% of prior with better WLB, benefits, etc.
That’s because they got into those companies during the crazy offer years. There’s a reason all of those companies are laying off and Walmart isn’t. But Walmart is competitive at lower levels. Starts dropping off a bit around X6
Block or Microsoft carry about similar weight
