A little back story first: I’m currently a contractor in my current role and want get a permanent position. There aren’t many at my current company and the positions in my org are majority contractors and the probability of becoming permanent or being let go are about equal since it’s project based. I would wait it out since I have about 6 months left in my contract but I want to buy a house and contractor benefits suck, & my contract will most likely just get extended. Here’s my dilemma: I’ve interviewed for 2 companies and feel & hope I may get an offer for both. The pay is equal and would be a lateral move as far as take home pay with the benefits. Company 1: downtown which would require public transit for the commute. Offers cable& internet for free while an employee. Office is ugly & dated. People seem more likable & job itself seems more in line with future goals Company 2: in the burbs so I can drive my car / faster commute ( by about 15-30min), better office space. Job is more in line with what I currently do and could lead to other opportunities. People seem ok. If it helps, the companies are Comcast & Accenture Any advice would suffice.
Depends which city and suburbs?. I would choose Comcast, as it's different from yacc(yet another consulting company) Also heavily depends on whether you are on a visa or not
I’m on the east coast so snow/cold & terrible weather happens about 50% of the year. Also, no visa. I prefer the suburbs only because it’s a straight run and you have control over when you leave /get to work. Where as going into the city would require driving to a train station and then doing public transport the rest of the way. So I wouldn’t cut costs in transit since I still have to pay car expenses , I would just have to add the expense of public transportation to the mix
