Need help choosing by end of week! Offer 1: Workday - Bay Area, $130k ($110k base, 10k bonus, $30k rsu), RTO Offer 2: Salesforce - Dallas, $88k ($80k base, $8k bonus), Remote Priorities are path to promotion, exit opportunities, mentorship (as I’m less than 2 years into my career), and I hope to buy property soon (I have ~$200k net worth). Which one would you choose?
depends more where you want to live i would say. Dallas would allow to own property sooner and much more easily
Yeah and I actually like Dallas too!
Dallas is great if you want to build wealth fast. But if you're very young would also consider the network effects of living in the Bay Area. I live in Dallas and love it. But if I'm 25, might want to live in the Bay Area over Dallas
With this salary, forget about owning an RV not a house in the Bay Area. Actually, I don’t think you can afford renting an apartment. Sorry to be blunt, but I am being honest. I don’t like the south, but if you are ok, go there better.
Damn :( Texas it is
Also, May I suggest negotiating your offer with SalesForce using the offer from workday? Don’t tell them it is RTO. SalesForce HQ is in the Bay Area so you can always move internally there for better pay in the future.
For everything but the property pick Workday. But it’s gonna be hard living the first year on that salary.
Thanks! Why workday for the others?
RTO. Head office. Bay Area in general better for mobility. Texas is a place to go to give up on the Bay Area rat race and just be comfortable with the median.
Would agree but with a qualifier. Remote roles are becoming increasingly common and bay area firms are hiring Senior Engineers at top dollar from Texas
Ahh yeah but I’m not swe :/
Market adjustment for tier 1 (Bay Area) region to tier 3 (Dallas) is about 15%-20%
Yea but that's still significantly higher than cost of living and money saved on taxes
I heard someone getting 30% cut? Is that true?
I work for a tech firm based out of SF and my Dallas comp is maybe 10-15% lower. I actually make more than my SF colleagues in real terms
May I ask what your Texas TC breakdown is?
Position and yoe ?
Non tech, YOE: less than 2
