My gf has two offers - one from Cisco and another from VMware. TC is similar. Currently, laid off from a start-up. She is a great coder but these are the best she could crack in the current scenario(on visa) and both the recruiters are not budging citing the market is full of top candidates now. Cisco AppD: G-8 160k, 65k, 12% Sign - on :15k VMWare: MTS-3 155k, 75k, 12% Sign - on :18k 3 YoE Both are in the Bay Area. I am at a different BU in Cisco and will be interviewing soon after the covid situation. Don't know much about AppDynamics as they behave as a completely separate entity. We live near Belmont and travel is not a concern to either SF or Palo Alto.. Edit : Please comment if possible & if you know well about either of them or why to keep interviewing in this scenario. We only have 45 days left.
Take a stop at cisco . Once situation improves again interview back with VMware . They can pay more . Seems recuriter is exploiting situation . Also reject VMware first . If there is scope they might come back with better number .
This sounds like a good idea. Any idea as to how much further can we push VMware?
If it's un negotiated offer , I think stocks can go upto 100k . Other things look fine . I don't have any personal data point . But just intution , that it should be atleast this much for company like VMware .
AppDynamics is of strategic interest to Cisco. Also much easier to level up from G8 to G10 if you’re good. Go there, level up quick and by the time she’s ready to leave. Will get next lvl offers from a better company.
Would the same not be possible at VMware? Is it too political?
I know Appdynamics very well :) I know VMware a good bit but not enough to give you a confident answer or tell you which group is best.
Is 65k over 4y?
Yes, both the offers' RSUs are over 4 years
Which team at VMware?
Something as vellocloud. I don't know if that's the BU. Can double-check
Velocloud was a startup acquired by VMware and is now part of NSBU
Have a feeling VMware going to have a big one coming! They have a acquired a lot of companies during the good times to stay relevant. It’s coming to a lot of the old school companies!
Appdynamics is very strong right now and hiring. Lots of opportunities to grow fast since old timers are moving after retention/vest. Also appd still operates like a startup, very differently than cisco so it is also a cool fun place.
Cisco is also having layoffs, may be chose vmware?
I keep reading that AppDynamics never had layoffs in many years. SJ campus has frequent ones in the Bay Area. VMWare also does layoffs every Jan. These are just from our readings. First hand comments are appreciated.
They haven’t. I was there for a while. AppD was a great place to work. Many of the people that made it great have moved on. That said it’s still a solid place.
