Current marketing manager, aspiring PM. A Snap recruiter reached out about an account manager position and Iβm not sure if I should pursue this role. Will being an account manager bring me closer to becoming a PM or should I stick it out and hope for a PM or PMM role? I think the Snap job would probably be a raise of about $20k. #pm #product #productmanager #accountmanager TC: π₯ YOE: 2
Account manager is hustling backwards. Go PMM.
How so?
Product marketing managers are closer to product than account managers. Many PMMs become PMs by fostering a hood relation with the product team and getting minor opportunities to Influence product during go-to-market campaigns.
No better to do internal transfer from your current position
+1 to PMM as a stepping stone. Easier within your own company, you already know your customer segments (I hope), so PMM is just telling the story of how your products will solve ALL their problems.
PMM is closer. Account Manager will not get you any closer.
Sometimes customer engineer experience can be more useful than PMM, but account manager less useful I think
Product marketing is much closer. Account manager is nowhere near related
Okay thank you
