BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
I have two team matches: Team 1: - Org: Metaverse (Horizons World) - Team is distributed (I am in person) - Manager and other teammates still being hired - Impact: Fairly high, seems important to the org, would save money & improve experience - Tech: C++, IOS, Game engine related. I'm very interested in learning this but don't have as much experience. Dependencies on other teams and some ambiguity Team 2: - Org: Central Products - Manager is nice and in person, and so are some other teammates which I like - Impact: Fairly high, work is important to instagram (and Zuck according to manager) - Tech: Python, ML, Data. I have more experience in this but I'm not as excited about the work #meta #career #swe #team #metaverse #zuck #risk #impact #engineering
Every work is important until the org gets cut.
horizon worlds seems like a ticket to a future layoff
Wow, the tech of the two are completely different. Have you had experience in both in the past? If not, how come the HM is so receptive to hiring someone without experience in a tech stack? Is this normal at meta?
pretty standard there
Yeah, looks weird. It is not even close. Looks like Game Dev vs Data / ML engineer
Gaming is never going to lead to high comp over your career (long term) despite demanding hours and politics. Choose wisely.
How did you do in your behavioral? Do you know what they are looking for in behavior part?
Also, ignore the “manager is nice” part. They all appear nice until they decide (or instructed) to throw you under the bus. Meta is a highly political workplace!
What would you pick based on then?
Definitely do central. Less political and less likely to get cut. Always stick to infra/internal stuff, same pay and further away from the news cycle. Also avoid ads, marketplace and various teams at IG
Did you get a chance to speak with hiring manager ? How many teams you applied for and how many you got back ?
Choose the first. It sounds more exciting
Every manager will tell you their work is important to Zuck 😂 I am sure it’s the same at all other big company. Ignore that part.
