Meta thinks flatter organizations run more efficiently. The truth is that managers here are completely neutered. Q is almost over and my manager finally found out what I was working on because I put together a doc for him. It's not his fault the whole thing is completely broken. And if you think this empowers me it doesn't. I'm stressed out of my mind trying to be both Engineer and Manager for a half dozen projects because that is how Meta works.
What's the manager / direct report ratio in your org?
