Canceling debt isn’t inflationary or costing tax payers
Debating whether to get a smart doorbell either a Ring or Nest. All my phone, location, blah blah blah data is already owned by any company with an App, but feel like the home front has been the one place Of refuge and privacy (Google earth aside). Now I’ll be giving a live feed of my house/neighborhood and God knows what other data points to one of these companies. Which company is the lesser evil here? Leaning towards a nest because I heard Amazon is setting up a police surveillance state, but maybe Google just has better marketing and PR and is quieter about their dystopian vision of the future? What y’all think https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/06/amazon-ring-must-end-its-dangerous-partnerships-police
These doorbells are too creepy for me
There is no Evil…evil lies in the eyes of the beholder
And Google created Spanner to store it's the Eye of the Beholder.
Don’t point it at your bed, and I think you will be fine
Amazon wants to use your data to sell you more shit. Google wants to let third party companies outbid each other to sell you more shit. In both cases, they're interested in the consumer you and give zero fks about your personal affairs.
How does partnering with police sell me more shit?
That's a feature Nextdoor like people asked to be added so they could share with the police. It doesn't share without your permission.
Blind is confused. Amazon is the company that treats customers great and shits on employees. Google is the company that treats employees great and shits on their users.
Lol
Neither. But having tried the newly released nest wireless bell, it works quite well. Don't know though about Ring to be in a position to compare.. But my experience (in general, not with the ring bell in particular) with Amazon hardware is it generally is cheap and the hardware/software experience is sub-par at best. The cheap fire tablets are all collecting dust in my home.
Trust both not to lose my private data and to be very upfront with how they’re using it. I also trust Google to suddenly abandon the product just as I come to depend on it.
Burned by Google glass were we?
Who haven’t
why not just not get one?
Definitely an option but have had package thieves so notifications of deliveries in real time would be great. Weighing risk reward here.
This is awesome thank you!
Lol. How's a Chinese company even an option when discussing privacy
Poll? They are both about as evil as Robinhood 🤷♂️

If RH gets into doorbells I will add them to the poll
