Amazon’s culture, rewards, wlb has mostly negative reviews. Then why do so many engineers choose to keep working at Amazon and not switch? What’s the catch? Is it really that bad? #culture #workplace
The only thing I can think of is stonks, and the growth of that has skyrocketed in the past few years
I guess because Amazon US jobs are mostly filled with people on Visa and hence no leverage to switch 🤷
because they can’t get a job anywhere else and have the “prestige” of working in FAANG. let’s be honest that’s probably the case for 90% of them
There are also great teams. And teams that work on super interesting products / technology.
Limited number of great teams. Great teams are a rare species in Amazon
Question is where are these great teams? Why not celebrate them more by mentioning them?
It’s one of the biggest companies in the world. Not every single team is bad.
Not all teams suck. Blind is just full of people who like to exaggerate or are stuck in bad teams - don’t use blind as the benchmark
OP, that's due to the sunk cost fallacy. RSU vesting schedule is back-loaded towards years 3 and 4. Once you are in, you work hard year after year to realize the vests from the farthest two years.
Company is great but the bully system encourages managers along with some senior engineers to creat hostile work environment for others.
I'm leaving after 1.5 years. Amazon sucks but if you are lucky you'll have a good manager and team. I wasn't.

Tech companies to avoid as a white guy?
I’m considering moving to AWS. It seems there are some good teams.
As an AWS Engineer: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
But it really depends on the leadership you get.
