Why I Find Free Palestine Inspiring
I am not sure if this applies to every org. But I have this feeling that is almost impossible to get a good machine. I got a desktop computer that was decent but the portable machine was a Surface Laptop that is insanely slow. Would take me 6/7 hours to build my project compered to 40 min in a desktop computer. I heard some people would buy a machine using their own money and add to the domain to be able to do their jobs. I always remember [Joel Test](https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2000/08/09/the-joel-test-12-steps-to-better-code/) item .9 Saving on computers isn't very wise, since hours-dollar summed would cost way more than a good machine. #tech #computer #microsoft
Don't you have a remote build system there?
Mac laptop for most things, including docking to monitors and using IDE for local workspace, but it's all scp'd to remote machine where you build projects and test
holy fu****** shit this post is old
And still relevant :-)
Engineer used to get dev machine instead of laptop. They changed that? It’s insane to do local build on laptop
Yes, but working remotely you might want to use your laptop instead of remoting into your machine. I high-end laptop would be able to build as fast as a desktop machine
Work at a real company. Then you will use a real language like Java, a real IDE like IntelliJ and be given a real Macbook computer rather than a piece of shit windows box. Amazon sounds like heaven compared to Microsoft.
Well C++ is a real language. The only thing that kills is the compilation time.
I’m pretty sure it due to a screen capture and a key logger that hogs resources. Mine was so slow it froze a couple of times during the screen capture 🙊
I’m still forced to use the 2019 mbp that overheats and becomes unusable when connecting to a monitor
Invest in a M1 Pro MacBook if macOS works for you. Its insanely fast with amazing battery life. Ask your manager to see if it can be expensed.
you guys build projects locally?
We do have CI, but for local test you need to build locally
