Most people I know who work at facebook has their LinkedIn saying software engineer. They may be E5, E6 or at whatever level, but that is never updated in LinkedIn. Why? I see engineers at google write Senior or Staff or senior staff etc. Are engineers told not to write their level on LinkedIn at Facebook/Meta? #facebook #meta TC: 280k
Why would anyone put their internal level on LinkedIn?
Meta doesn’t have senior or staff titles as far as I know, just internal levels for SWE.
But they seem to have levels, which I know is internal, so everyone I see writes software engineer. Want to know why is that the case?
Don’t think anyone wants to write their internal levels on LI. I wouldn’t.
Because level is hidden internally, why bother telling everyone on linkedin?
Why is it hidden internally? Do you guys know at what level someone is in your team?
the level is completely hidden and only EM would know. You can guess easily if you’re in meta for awhile. And if you’re the TL or E7 and above, you’d likely know due to mashups and other administrative works you have to do for the team. In practice, nobody really cares. I don’t know why meta hides the level internally but I like it that way. I never let the level affects my judgement or participation in discussion.
I saw someone from Facebook mention in a post on blind that all the levels have the title Software engineer internally in FB, so that's why. Also, mentioning the title is the norm but very few people have levels like L4, E4 etc mentioned on LinkedIn.
Meta doesn’t believe in titles.
Probably an age thing? I’ve seen people not do it for G as well, but some do. Boomers are obsessed with titles while millennials chase money.
not entirely true, I saw quite a number of younguns putting “senior”/“staff” on linkedin while boomers just put swe.
If you check on levels.fyi fb/meta does not have names for its roles while Google does
OP, what’s your YOE and location? Does Samsung pay that well?
I know someone at FB who has "Senior Software Engineer" as their title on LinkedIn A simple google search gives results for other roles like staff, senior staff as well, so looks like its just personal preference
Fuck titles.
My drunk head read it as "Fuck titties".
^ drinking early, mate? cheers!
Why do people write TC or GTFO on blind comments?
Lol!
