First things first, I have no intentions of generalizing and I speak from the data that I have from my own personal experiences. Adding to that, I have had some American recruiters (maybe 1) be rude at some point. Having all that said, so far I have interviewed with several companies and went through many final rounds. Most interviewers who were indian were quite rude. Why is that the case? I could think that maybe they don’t like me enough as a candidate but that could be the case with other interviewers too but they chose not to be rude? I also don’t think that is a good enough reason to be rude. First of all the interview process in itself is such a pain but above that when the interviewers decide to be rude and sarcastic, why? Just curious. No hate. I love Indians. ♥️But sharing my experience and seeing if others have experienced the same.
Because they feel like they "made it" so they can haze the next person below them. It's a never ending self hatred circle
They are the hardest workers out there, doesn’t that bring empathy within them? Cos they know how tough it is.
That’s a false premise. It’s more like “I had to work hard so you’ll have to work harder”
Primarily because they tend to hire their own. You see org groups in companies all Indians top to bottom.
That's funny they grill their own more
@HCL fuck off. They don't grill their own caste and state folks. Do you really want me to believe that the agarwals, the jains, and the guptas grill each other in interviews?
Don't take it too personally. Many are still learning to be politically correct. At least this way, you get a better sense of the result.
I don’t think the political correctness is an issue for me or will be ever. It’s just that the feeling you are left with after talking to them is just so so bad. In a way good that it doesn’t work out so I don’t have to work with you but I also need the job.
You will have major issues working in such a group. Find a team that has more diversity and better cultural fit for you. Count $/hours worked instead of just total $ earned on the job. Count culture and job satisfaction as part of the compensation. Good luck! I am sure you will find a job that gives you a healthy work environment and a decent paycheck.
Myself indian. Don't know why they grill more recently had an interview where the panel has 5 people 4 were indians and 1 was American or I don't him but he is definitely not indian. The 4 grilled me like 55 mts the white guy just asked how I achieved the things I have mentioned in the resume. The thing is they didn't have a water bottle in the room. My throat was dry by the end of call.
Indians in general have a very rigid idea of what a good candidate should like. They fail to value the additional skillset that a candidate can bring to the team.
I am Indian guy and I still love Indians. But I have the same experience as you. A lot of Indians have become very successful fast in the last decade and lost empathy + EQ. This is especially true for male Indian interviewers and managers. The alpha male ego that naturally exists in patriarchal societies got a huge boost in the tech revolution.
I have had a woman tell me straight “do not think this is your typical 9 to 5. You will have to be available outside of office hours and there’s lot more work than your typical role” I personally think there can be a better way to put that in a sentence.
Agree on that. There’s a nicer way of saying it. I still know some good Indian managers but that’s rare.
I was interviewing at Amazon last year and had the most uptight Indian interviewer. Kinda shocked how rude he was
I was hoping to form a connection with my interviewer so looked him up on LinkedIn before the interview. Towards the end of the call asked him what he thinks about the role and because he came from consulting, does he ever think he will go back to consulting? His response was “ I don’t have a crystal ball to tell you that. “ is it me or is that a really weird response.
Yikes😂 weird and condescending
I’ve had two different Indian hiring managers hang up on me mid sentence during an interview before.
So sorry to hear that.
Some of my Indian colleagues can come across as rude. I think it’s just a cultural difference. In my experience, Indian interviewers love to grill and flex on candidates. Sometimes they ask esoteric things that no one gives a crap about just to “get you”. I did that too, as a new grad 😂
Can you share examples of rude behavior?
Read my reply to other comments. Something along those lines.
