Companies hire best of the best paying several times more than the competition. Where's the results? I implement Oracle ERP. At every conference customers are crying for features Oracle will never implement. MS Teams the new low in a category "buy a good product that everyone loves and just kill it". Google maps - Any commercial GPS software will do the same thing with 3 times less clicks. Is it scrum and that "rush to market an unfinished product" concept? But these products stay like this for years. Nobody fixes them. Is it lack of focus / too many products to manage? Do people still care about making good software? Or is it all lost in the promotion race?
My God I'm a huge Google fan but Google maps has been giving me the biggest headaches ever. Is there an alternative please?
Waze.
What's wrong with gmaps?
This is the big question, right? Incredibly important software used to power tons of transactions and provide accurate insights into complex matters is often just bare-minimum acceptable. A lot of it is because it was originally built so long ago that changing it is incomprehensibly difficult. Some of it is because there’s incredible hesitation to suffer any short-term pain for making changes now. It’s why I’m glad to leave Salesforce. The incentive to improve it is hardly present.
The best of the best are interested in making money, not good products. You deliver something kind of working or stitch a fix or feature in a ugly way before a deadline? Promo You improve existing code, ux or concept? Extra non paid work
I have a commercial gps software preinstalled in my car and it is practically useless. So what exactly are you talking about Google Maps? Oracle, MS might stay the same and eBay has not changed since the 90s but GMaps keeps evolving with features.
