It is “at will” right? So managers can set expectations unrealistic. Like “I want this one week job done in one day, otherwise you are fired”. Maybe that’s a threat but it is totally legal. This works especially on people on visa. This also applies to c-suite. CEO can tell VP I want your product to generate how much revenue in this quarter OR you are fired.
Happens all the time
Right? It is common.
Pip is just the official version of this
Because you are not the only place in town for a job, anyone behaves like what you described has mental issues You think people just have to take the abuse?
Managers can keep firing ICs until the job is done.
There are many people waiting for jobs.
Theoretically, How about a series B CEO tell VP make a billion dollar overnight or they will be fired. Completely legal. Except for the fact that CEO will look like a clown and never ever become a billionaire.
I've seen things like that.
Because there are many other managers that are not like that who the employee can go work for. So the manager that you described would have a hard time retaining any employees in their team
But according to OP there’s an infinite pool of people who can be hired at no cost who can’t gain any information about the company they work at and how they treat their employees. Quality employees are an infinitely renewable resource.
There are laws and policies to prevent hostile environments at your workplace
Yeah. You are answering my questions. Thanks. Like what?
I thought it was always at will.
Because there is two sides to the equation dummy. The manager has to deliver while maintaining morale to keep the engine running.
You can definitely do that, But the Next thing would be getting a reputation of Amazon in US. Most folks don't want to join or leave after 2 years to Google for a better WLB. I think it will damage companies reputation.
At will employment doesn’t stop you from getting sued for abuse or wrongful termination
Hope you’re not a manager
I am not. I am OK if my managers threat to fire me.
I know it is legal. If it is not, let me know
