Hi, I was just looking at a chart that really asked user count for social networks in 2020. Facebook dominates of course, TikTok is solidly in the middle. But Twitter is towards the bottom with less users than Reddit. What do you think Twitter can do to drive user growth? Or even revenue growth as well #tech #twitter
Compared to FB/IG and Tiktok, I think it’s because Twitter is less visual. Reading and writing is exhausting for many people. They prefer videos and images. Especially when 14% of the world is illiterate, 21% of the US is illiterate.
One other thing is culture. You have to be a part of a specific culture already on Twitter for it to be worthwhile. For example, my immigrant parents love Facebook because the community there is developed for them. It’s nonexistent on Twitter.
Because Trump is no longer active 🦖
The short-form text-based nature of the posts inherently limits Twitter's ability to expand into other areas and stay competitive with newer social networks. They're one of the oldest still-in-use social networks and the ability to easily fire off status updates via your cell phone was revolutionary before smartphones and was their key selling point. Now that everybody and their mother, even in less-developed countries, has a smartphone with the ability to run custom apps for any social network and easy full-featured mobile Internet access from virtually anywhere there's not really anything Twitter does better than FB/IG/TikTok.
Twitter reports mDAU. That’s different from DAU reported by Snap and fb. And different from MAU reported by Reddit. Reddit’s DAU is less than a third of Twitter’s. https://www.theverge.com/2020/12/1/21754984/reddit-dau-daily-users-revealed There maybe many reasons, I won’t speculate.
