I've seen Blind posts like "how do I hurt Uber the most" or "all women should quit Uber" etc. With all the recent press, Uber has clear incentive to fix itself. Tech industry is watching closely. Their employees are watching closely But now instead of giving them time, why hurt them more? Another strong tech company is useful for all us tech employees. It means more job options for us, more pressure on employers to retain us (keep us happy), higher comp bar, more market stability, etc. Not all companies reach such a stage. Many unicorns fail. The ones that make it, let's cheer for them. Yes, scrutinize them to improve, but don't go bizzerk trying to "hurt" them!
it's a very strange combination of leftist politics meeting capitalist dollar they love to hate but want for themselves anyway. ok for them to have but of course not others. if you want another good example see the Uber situation in Austin before even the most recent Uber news.
because all what you said don't matter to me so I don't care, I mean, why would I care about a random start-up succeeded and some execs became rich? if uber fails some other companies would succeed using the same model so I won't be affected as customer or tech worker I do care about women not get harassed and good work culture in our industry so yes I want uber to fail.
check out how well the other players performed without Lyft and Uber in Austin this past week with a year to prep. answer, they did not. servers crashed and left drivers idle and riders stranded in the rain.
cuz when uber is there they won't get enough money, when uber is gone they'd get.more investment and income
I dont like the leadership at the company. They take advantage of FTE and drivers.
tell me, just who is forcing them to stay at Uber? if they really are taking advantage which I won't be surprised given the slime ball nature of the CEO who is stopping them from jumping ship.
they'll suck it up and stay with uber if that's where the customers are.
Malignant leadership leads to a malignant company. If they're gone, maybe it's a different story and I'll start to root for the company
Lots of us want TK to step down!
I want Uber to fail because I was harassed by my senior manager and it was my most depressing work life ( I had even been happy at amazon - so). The arrogance that some Uber employees and management showed clearly indicated a fall - it was a matter of time. I personally like a few friends and colleagues - but the bad ones overweighed. On top of it we have folks like Andrew Weagly in HR who knows that only senior management is right , and wasn't there to help when I needed it the most. But I feel for some good folks there - Uber is not 100% bad . I left in 2016 march timeframe- it was very toxic and getting more toxic .. we were shown hockey stick growth in China and still we left - we were comparing ourselves to Facebook growth and the useless 14 principles made me puke - celebrate cities ??? ( I am a male and it is not sexual harassment)
That HR guy's name is Andrew Wegley, not Weagly. And yes he needs to be fired
that guy sucks. I've reported several things to him over the last couple of years (not harassment things, but like, general hr/employee issues) and his responses were always bullshit.
Because Travis Kalanick is a complete bag of dicks. Remove him and I will rethink my position.
This.
Let's be honest, there's always jealous, since lots of us having paper millions. I'd be jealous when people around me make bank and retire if Uber has a successful ipo and I am watching from outside. It's not universal to Uber, check out the vibe in Snap ipo thread, it's simply human nature.
Plenty of people butthurt they're not riding the wave
Uber's entire business model relies on extracting equity from people with no better options for employment. They are the worst example of the "sharing economy" and its exploitation of the "1099 but not really because we control the terms of employment lol" model.
And Lyft?
Mechanical Turk?
