Why does AT&T have a short expiration on job postings?

So I noticed a job at AT&T that had a list date of 2/4/21 and had an end date of 2/15/21. Curious as to why there is a limit on the job posting? Do they accept the resumes submitted then go through them to start the interview process? Curious if anyone knows the reasoning or formality of AT&T with this or any other similar companies that do this and why? TIA! TC: $220k #hiring #hr #recruiting #att

Bc it’s already filled..... if you didn’t know about it before it posts then your not the one they have in mind

So dumb - just typical legality of posting it publicly with an internal employee in mind? Makes sense though

Not always. I’m in marketing and we put our up for about a week and then interview. Just depends on the department.

@paddleaway - the listing was for a role in marketing so that's really helpful to know. Thank you!

Yup. It’s already been filled. Most likely they already knew who they were going to select. If you’re internal, you need to start talking with the people on the team you want to move to before they have an opening.

Agree with all above, does depend on the department, but typically roles are filled quickly by internal candidates before external candidates have the chance to apply. The short expiration is a direct result of the HR culture of closing out action items quickly. Sometimes this is annoying as a hiring manager, as you may not get the candidate you want in that timeframe and you have to repost jobs multiple times, but at AT&T...HR is rigid and not motivated by finding the best candidate, rather continuously clearing listings and following the rules. Also, if jobs are not filled in a timely fashion, regardless of need, sometimes those positions will be eliminated altogether to save cost.
