Why does facebook need engineers
The app is already made. Insta is working fine, fb is and so is whatsapp. What more new features would engineers add? Is it more of maintenance? I don’t see room for adding new features in these apps. It’s already too cluttered. My proposal is they layoff 75% of workforce and keep the remaining for maintenance.
These apps work because they are maintained and stay relevant. For example, when TikTok added videos so too did insta. They also provide many small features for creators and businesses. Features you don’t use but, features which have evolved over the years like analytics and metrics that businesses care about and need. Finally, they also need to continue to work on the newest hardware. For example, WhatsApp owned by Facebook uses the Dynamic Island on iPhone. If they didn’t account for it they would block some important menus or may be unstable in new edge cases.
Don’t forget that Facebook also owns oculus and are trying to create new experiences. These new experiences may eventually fuel their businesses as people turn Facebook groups into virtual gathering places with an oculus headset.

Let's first see how the Twitter experiment results turn out in a couple years before rolling out to a larger population of companies.
The twitter app is already garbage now. So many bugs. Now maybe it is also more successful and profitable? That’s beyond my pay grade. But the app itself is clearly worse
