What happens when most of your team is Indian?
From what I understand and read in the article, the base pay cap is increasing to 350k. In addition, the ranges are increasing for most roles. But this does not imply the actual pay is increasing. How does this impact my actual pay? There's no statement about raises across the company. For all I care the base pay cap could be 10M and it would make no difference since it's a CAP. TC 210 2 yoe
When ranges or band increase, your position in the band also offsets. If you’re in the middle of the old band, you’ll be pushed to middle of new band which increases your TC
Did they say that there is going to be readjustment across all bands?
That’s my assumption. Considering how big the news are and if folks don’t see an improvement in their TC, the act could be counter-productive for Amazon
Yup. Sounds good and lots of dummies from Amazon posting about it like everyone is getting $350k base now when it just likely applies to higher level employees in the highest bands.
I think you’re the dummy for assuming that most of us think everyone is getting 350K base. The base cap was a huge deterrent for people working at Amazon so this is a welcome first step. As I said on the other thread, we will know how the increase in pay bands translate to increase in TC.
there are a lot of dummies who just read two words viz 350k and base
The bigger change may be immediate comp update rather than waiting for year (or two?). We’ll see the impact of the changes in a couple of months (managers will know on Wed)
People in power vote for themselves to stay in power. Looks like the executives wanted more base for themselves so they voted it into motion. Don't think any of that will trickle down... May be to a few people and give others hope that they can
Nope, executives at Amazon (even Bezos) were not making more than $150k base, it was mostly stocks Edit: This comment was replying to a now deleted comment saying directors base is more than SDE base
What? Were the VPs and GMs getting 185K or less?
Why would they increase the cap & compansation range and announce it if they are not going to make an actual increase? That would further demotivate their employees and I believe leadership is smart enough to know that. Having said that, of course it doesn't mean that anyone is getting a 100% TC/base increase but I'd expect Amazon to make way above average increases this year (compared to other companies)
Unless you're already top of the band.
If that was the case, I believe they would just silently increase the pay for top of the band people.
I won’t be surprised if Amazon takes some of the stock equity and converts it into Base pay increases, MIcrosoft did something similar during Ballmer when stock price was stagnant for a while.
Yeah this is super wrong haha I saw the new comp ranges
What’s the new comp ranges?
Because people value cash in their bank accounts more than RSU which will vest in 4 years.
Especially when they are going to get pip and lose the RSU before vest!
It's exactly to do this. Buy positive attention
To be honest, I have no idea why everyone is focusing on the base pay change, when the actual important thing is that they're increasing ranges and giving much larger pay raises this year.
Base pay is a big deal when lenders don’t really care for RSUs as much for loans. Now we can leverage more ( •̀ .̫ •́ )✧
Lenders in Seattle understand how stock-based compensation works. If you can show a W2 that says you were paid 400k last year, they really don’t care whether that was in cash or stock. Financing a house was not a problem for me at all.
Exactly
