Question to the hiring managers at Amazon, if you guys got any instructions to hire only female interns for summer? Before everyone starts hating, let me make it clear that, the female students who got hired are super talented and I have nothing against them, good for them that they secured an internship. I'm from one of the big schools in east coast doing my masters in CS and Amazon in the last 1 month hired 15 girls from our school for summer internship, and none of the guys got hired, I know that the ratio is generally skewed but hiring 0 guys is crazy! Is there something like Amazon first fills up the women quota and then goes on to hire men? or is there a certain goal they are trying to hit this year with respect to female workforce quota? Thought maybe the managers or employees or HRs here might have some info, so posting it here. Peace! #Internship #summerIntern #Summer24 #Amazon
If they hired 15 men would you also be asking about a quota? Why do you find it so unbelievable that the top applicants were all women? I think you ought to reexamine your assumptions.
If all are equal, it's statistically unlikely that all top applicants are women
No because STEM, especially CS, is already overwhelmingly men and many CS departments are 90%+ men
Main beneficiary of DEI are women. This is not news. Lol
Specifically white women
How many white women SWEs have you seen in your career?
Amazon is sexist
It’s like >90% men in SWE orgs
not in mine. females were regularly promoted to manager positions and they were unprofessional. all the SDE roles were men in my org dei was oppressive
But you get better chance when applying for full time
Is it? I really hope so because, I'm in my masters 1st year, and internship situation is super bad for everyone, hopefully full time situation gets better over time
Yeah interviewers dont take intern position seriously. Full time is different because your teammates impact whether you get laid off or promoted. They hire engineers that gets job done. As long as you work hard and stay sharp they will acknowledge you.
A lot of creepy old Indian managers at Amazon
Lmao. If they hired men, you would comment 'A lot of nepotistic old Indian managers at Amazon who only hire men from their own community'.
Nope
lol
Most large companies have programs to hire underrepresented minorities for internships. You probably witnessed amazon SURE: https://www.amazon.science/sure Btw, the underrepresentation of women in tech is the worst in the US. India, China and Russia don't have much of an issue. A former employer had lots of hot russian programmers.
That's just gender discrimination with a fancy coat of paint
I see my school in that list lol
Don’t worry, OP. Just take a look at the gender composition of executives, managers, and other leaders in basically every company. Any advantage that women may have in gaining entry level positions evaporates completely the week after they are hired. The glass ceiling will be good to you.
Next is I am wearing a skirt and identifying myself as a woman
same as meta, salesforce and adobe.
Glad that Broadcom is not into this! At least my team isn’t .
At least in them I have 1-2 of my guy friends that got in, Amazon was a bit too much with 15:0 ratio.
