Both their revenue sources are ads. Yet Google is the only one that seems to be cutting down on hiring. FB on the other hand, is giving bonuses and EE to all its employees.

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
Google is saving a cent to lose a dollar by slowing hiring
I feel very valued by your sentence. 😁
Facebook is wasting dollar to have a cent left after all is done
I guess google has been way more aggressive on hiring than fb in the past couple quarters, also fb has higher turnaround rate
Fb has higher attrition rate
I dont think you are right about attrition, do you a source to support that?
FB is trying to build products fast, as engagement has increased drastically. They recently launched a gaming/streaming app and are trying to see the current situation as an opportunity. They know that ads will follow once the pandemic is over. Also I don't think any of these two are suffering. Uber, Bird, Lyft, Airbnb are
Also, all other parts of the business profit from the wfh environment, including Portal, Oculus and Workplace
Lol, FB is drinking the kool aid. Who the F buys Workplace? And I hear both customers are happy with their Portal.
google relies heavily on restaurant, travel, hotel ads while fb relies heavily on gaming ads
Want to know how true this is. You have their ad revenue breakdown by vertical?
Lol it's just based on the ads he sees
I feel it's based on Dynamics of the business Faacebook has less to drag as compared to Google other than ads ( devices , services etc ), in the nutshell both are hit dude to ad slowdown from small businesses. It's just who has strict management of cash reserves and who shows it first .
Facebook has higher profit margin than Google because Google invest in a lot of products of which the contribution to the revenue does not justify the costs.
True, but in the meanwhile, Facebook has not done as much to diversify its revenue streams. Its only big bet is Oculus right now. Libra is on silence.
"Libra is on silence" Correct, the only big bets that exist are the ones with regular press releases to keep you in the loop.
I think FB makes strong accent on engagement and communication between friends and family, we can see it from growing Messenger platform, Portal and etc. Whether Google def lacking on messaging platforms, Youtube is huge, but gives only one-way, watching experience, good for passive consumption of influencers, but bad for maintaining relationships for average people.
Google missing messaging platforms? They create another one every month 😁
And who use it? What platform
"Google is suffering while Facebook isn't" that's one way to interpret the actions but there several other ways. Let's wait for earnings report next week
Will the earning both go south?
That totally aligns with their culture: irresponsible.
And still they are 10x more successful than us who are surviving on grants from big daddy msft and we are copying fb left and right on our painfully slow site
If we're being 100% real, nobody on here has perspective on whether or not it's smart to be hiring during a downswing like this. I bet not even directors have good perspective on this. This is a decision made at the SVP/Zuckie/Pichy level that I'm sure they both have good reasons for. Most of all though, I doubt it is fueled by the success of the business, probably more around their talent strategy. There are way smaller comapnies hiring insanely right now and more cash rich stable companies slowing down. So hard to tell
I know few of people on LinkedIn who’s internship offers got revoked last week. I guess even facebook is hit, but not showing impact yet. Its will soon be on same path following Google
There's a lot of people lying about having offers to get pity offers from other companies. Most the time they're getting called out
Maybe, but i saw someone from CMU saying that on LinkedIn. Pretty sure that cant be false considering most of the people from CMU CS get internships by oct-nov.
