Why not blame Twitter instead of Elon?

Why isn’t anyone calling out the obvious and blaming twitter for selling? They knew what Elon would do, so why sell if they cared so much about the people who ran the company? Just not making sense to me. It’s unfortunate and I feel for everyone effected by layoffs, but Elon is making business decisions just like twitter did by selling it to him. Anyone agree? #Twitter

Read about hostile takeovers maybe?

Twitter did not have to sell but they couldn’t refuse the offer… so they believed in the $$ more than the people and the product… should say a lot about Twitter

Barracuda React4Life Nov 4, 2022

Of course they had to sell. They are legally bound to the fiduciary interests of their shareholders.

Company has never been profitable. How does a company exist for 10 years without introducing new features, be unprofitable, and not go under? Sounds like they were gonna go through tough times inevitably.

Indeed sWKt02 Nov 4, 2022

this is pretty par for the course in silicon valley lmao

You think Twitter didn’t release new features over the past 10 years? Have you ever used the platform or do you post bullshit here

Circle DC8857 Nov 4, 2022

The argument is that Twitter had to because it would make it's shareholders a lot of money and at the end of the day, Twitter was a public company and acts in the interest of shareholders who all came out very well from the sale.

Optum 000000& OP Nov 4, 2022

So their priorities weren’t focused around, believing in the future and its people.

Google ISbad Nov 4, 2022

Their priorities were not to get frigging sued by their shareholders

Elon Fanboy spotted

I hate Elon lol

I’ve hated him for a long time but there is truth here too

Relevant question...would like to see constructive response from fellow blinders

Google ISbad Nov 4, 2022

It's not the company that decided but shareholders. Shareholders would sue and win if board would deny the sale.

Salesforce jcsfdc Nov 4, 2022

You are incorrect Google.

Snap ptgssx Nov 4, 2022

This whole thing is a cluster fuck. Bozo went in without a plan and tried to wiggle his way out. Board realized that the idiot overpaid and stood firm. Now, Musk had to do something out of a cluster fuck situation and decided to go nuclear and start from bare minimum. I will salute Elon if he can eventually get rid of the company at 44 bill.

The people that agreed to sell have a primary responsibility to the shareholders to maximize value and they took the deal because of it. However, blame should be directed at leadership for allowing it to become a target in the first place. Musk could have handle the layoffs better and just been more sympathetic but I could have seen an Elliot Capital do the same thing.

Optum 000000& OP Nov 4, 2022

Exactly if leadership built out a strategy and convinced their shareholders that Twitter could be worth much more in the future. They would have never thought of selling. So in my opinion, this falls on the responsibility of Twitter’s leader ship team. I think they failed all of their employees not Elon.

Dropbox FkYV57 Nov 4, 2022

As some already mentioned, all companies, especially unprofitable ones, are going to do layoffs sooner or later. It’s just that the Twitter leadership force Elon on the original deal and offloaded the responsibility to him instead. At the end of the day, reality matters less than perception. No one seems to question the billionaires behind the mass media pushing the negative Elon image 🤔. Everyone is being played here

Optum 000000& OP Nov 4, 2022

I agree with this

Pinterest b ready Nov 4, 2022

Nobody needs to push a negative Elon image, the man does it himself.

Meta NkKr21 Nov 4, 2022

They had no choice but to sell.

Meta aisenma Nov 4, 2022

Twitter will have layoffs regardless of the acquisition by Musk, so don't blame him. But we want to see how Musk handle the severance as he's known to be mean to employees
