Why ppl moving from Bay Area to Dallas ?
I don’t see any tech companies who are hiring crazily (except Walmart, Jo Morgan and few other companies ) . Why ppl are moving to Dallas ? Is it just for housing ? No state tax ? If you are on h1b and if you get laid off in Dallas , do you really find many options in Dallas ? #bayarea #dallas #tech
just for affordable housing. even though FT options are less, lot of contract opportunities are there. and also mostly people who has greencard & full remote jobs moving here

It’s affordable because there’s nothing there. It’s flat with no nature. Most the tech people live in Austin, two hours from the beach.

My god. I just heard that LOL. Moved to Illinois from Texas few years ago and i barely hear those but planning to return.
Dallas is the fourth largest metro behind NYC, LA, and CHI. Based on growth it will soon surpass Chicago. The fact of the matter is there is just a lot of people there, some of them are bound to be in tech
Not surprised. I'm going to move from Chicago suburbs too. It just ticks all my boxes and I don't mind a little heat
H1b sounds tough if you have to stay in a VHCOL city because of job opportunities. That's a long time living in an area with that's harder to afford, and you'd probably fear leaving / are settled even after the GC. Dallas is too hot and too car centric for my tastes, but a lot of people like living there. It's a large city with a lot of Texas culture.
I'm planning to move there too from middle of nowhere.

If your goal in life is to own a 3k+ sq. ft. home, this is the place to be. If you are super into church, eating shitty food and drinking. Also the place to be.
If you get laid off there is only your house that you can enjoy. It’s hard to find another job since remote jobs are not exactly remote anymore, they are hybrid. Places like JPMC, Walmart they have people who are settled here and don’t want to move out.
