Any idea why semiconductor companies like Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Xilinx, etc. do not have their engineering offices in Delhi, Noida ,Gurgaon ? Do they have plan to start their engineering offices in North India anytime soon ? #semiconductor #intel #nvidia #AMD #qualcomm #broadcom #xilinx #arm
Thanks, corrected
I think it's availability of labour. Most of these companies require skilled labor with masters and PhD degrees. Bangalore is already a hub, so easy to hire people. I am a north Indian and I have met very few north Indians during my masters. In group of 7 people, I was the only north indian in my group. Most north indians opt for MBA rather in Masters or PhD in Electrical engineering. Of course, as compared to south indians or people from Maharashtra area.
Qualcomm does have engineering office in Nodia.Though its small HW division compared to Bangalore.
Does Qualcomm have plan to further expand in Noida/ Delhi NCR ?
Bc China have better presence for hw/ee engineering and distribution system. India is better for tech support and coding bc of English
Read my question again..
Noida has some presence but it's non-existent compared to Bangalore and Hyderabad. It's much easier to find talent in Bangalore than Delhi.
It's a catch 22.. lack of companies are driving lack of talent.. I am sure there are ample of talent in Bangalore/ Hyderabad who are just waiting to see some of these companies to start an office in Noida.
I also find that quality of education and govt reforms are much better in Karnataka and andhra compared to Delhi/NCR. Having stayed at both the places, I know that Bangalore is much than Noida once or maybe it still is sans the traffic.
It's the hub that started in Bangalore in the late 1980s following TI opening up an office there. The old TI alumni went onto to start their own ventures (the most famous example being Cosmic Circuits) which got acquired by bigger fishes. The ecosystem exists there and so companies wants to open up a shop there as it will be easier to get talent. It's a positive feedback cycle. In the north, there was ST to begin with. Cadence opened up a huge office in the early 1990s to provide support. But the ecosystem could never grow as much as in the south.
Qualcomm Noida is pretty decent sized and will definitely grow...but not to Bangalore/Hyderabad levels.
NXP also has a office in Noida.
Nobody works in Delhi, they will tell abey yaar, plejjj, and pass the buck. :-)
Same north indian people go to hyderabad Xilinx office and start working like Superman.
Correct, it's probably the biryani :-). Or may be they get inspired by the collar up old city auto drivers. Some research needs to happen here. Very important, super superrrr important
I don’t know the answer to your question but I do know that you’re using the word less incorrectly. It seems to be a quirk of Indian English. You could say “Why so few semiconductor companies in North India?” or “Why such a small presence...” or could also just ngaf and say whatever you want. I just thought I’d put it out there in case other Indians didn’t already know this.
