Biggest cause of the downfall of Hinduism in modern era
I joined Amazon a few Months back and was having a positive outlook towards the company till now, the WLB does take some hit but otherwise it's not as bad as blind makes it seem. Just few active days here and I have started to think that Amazon is the worst company to work at. Can people who have worked here for a few years confirm if that's how it gets or is it just a trend on Blind to bash Amazon?
Amazon is the biggest of FAANG and has the most aggressive hiring policy. It has the lowest bar and thus has a high mandatory attrition rate to maintain a higher level of talent over a longer period. It also gives incredible control to the managers as a result of two pizza teams and the silos and different approaches - so a bad manager can make your life hell even if you don’t deserve it. I’ve seen a couple of PIP horror stories - but I’ve seen a lot more that were deserved. Tldr - low initial bar and shitty managers
Its bar is not low in behavior questions. It is practically a cult demanding people's unconditional contribution to the company (banana is a joke but very real) and accepting being wiped out like garbage in the name of pip, which is very little correlated to work.
I thought those who are wiped like garbage are those who are not contributing to the company 🤔
Search “PIP” on blind. You’ll see
Those posts are the reason I asked this question in the first place
I honestly don't understand why you're asking this question. What makes this thread more plausible than other ones? I've been there and seen that, my experience was ok, but there still were much more stress than in any other place I have worked before and after amzn. And no, pay IMO doesn't justify mental health impact. Some of my friends and colleagues weren't as lucky as me and had to take antidepressants and work very hard to stay afloat. Management and internal culture is deeply flawed.
Wait until you get PIPd for politics
For most of these PIP stories you only hear one side of the story. Keep that in mind. Yes, Amazon does have forced attrition at about 6% and sometimes that can lead to forcing the wrong person out. However, the majority of the time it is due to performance and the person has been given many opportunities to improve. Other companies also don’t make perfect hiring or firing decisions. Amazon is a fast-paced work environment that is very results driven. This type of environment isn’t for everyone and that’s fine. You can have a huge impact and learn a lot, but do need to deliver something. If someone wants to hide in the background while collecting paychecks then Amazon isn’t for you. Amazon is one of the easier FAANGs to get into, at least at a lower level, but still considerably harder than most non-FAANGSs.
6% per team?
I hope that's not 6% per team. And is it even legal to have a policy like that? What if entire team is performing good, will someone still get PIPd?
Low bar for managers kill the teams.
How is it a low bar? Amazon has a much higher bar than most non-FAANG companies.
Wait till you know you are in dev list without even you realizing it
It doesn’t work like that.
It worked exactly like that for me!
The negatives ( and maybe some positives) present in small measures in other places are really exaggerated in Amazon; that’s by design.. over-aggressive behavior and lack of ethics is promoted. Cut throat culture makes people ruthless at times and creates negativity.
Look around, ask yourself who would your manager PIP if not you? Then you'll see the true face of Amazon.
Sounds like you joined a bad team or didn’t have proper expectations for your role going in. At lower levels, you can still write a PRFAQ to present ideas and get them funded by management. However, if you’re in a ops heavy role then hard to find time as you mentioned. Goes back to finding the right fit (team and role).
Tc? Org? New to blind?
Org Amazon Appstore Tc :- Not sure if TC should include just cash or complete CTC. yoe 1 Yes, new to blind.
From some coworkers who transferred from appstore (also the india branch), that org is apparently one of the worse ones at Amazon. Try finding a different team. For what it's worth though, I'm personally pretty done with the company...
