Amazon stock jumped 16% after 4 PM EST, *before* the earnings report. This isn't a stupid 🚀 cheerleading post, but I'm genuinely curious, why was there a surge specifically after hours but before the earnings report was released? What information got out that led to the surge? Or if there isn't any new info, why do traders wait till after hours to trade like crazy even without any new info? It would make way more sense if there were no big changes until 5:30 pm, at time of release. Edit: I'm dumb. Earnings are out at 4 pm, before the 5:30 earnings call.

How do you know the earnings weren't reported prior to the after hours jump? (They were released a few minutes after the close)
I thought they get released at 5:30
That's when the call happens
5:30 is the call, the report is already out
🚀
Algo traders finding out immediately
It was out on dev and staging environment 😉
Trading bots are dumb. No reason for it to go up this much, guidance is lower and rivian sale was the only reason wps beat
There’s a difference b/w earnings release and earnings call. Call is at 2:30p PT but earnings report is released and hence the market reaction
Yup, just realized lol. Thanks
Reports are typically out a few min after market close
