Hi, I would like to know why the whole hate to Accenture and other consulting companies. I have only read bad reviews here, BUT they are mostly from the U.S and India, which have completely different working conditions from Europe. Is the hate towards these companies in Europe the same as in the u.s? #workplace
They are terrible. Period. https://www.innovationaus.com/digital-passenger-card-shelved-after-scathing-reviews/ https://www.henricodolfing.com/2019/10/case-study-hertz-accenture-website.html They are terrible as an employer too. Save yourself
So if people hate working conditions in the US at a company, it’s probably intolerable in Europe. Americans and immigrants working in the US generally accept and expect longer hours, less benefits, and more negative management tactics than Europeans do. Given the above, I think it’s incredibly naive to believe a company is better in Europe when it’s hated in America. It’s very much usually the other way around. Bad European companies are considered amazing in the US, as long as they extend EU statutory benefits to US employees.
Companies in Europe however adapt to what the employees are used to, otherwise they won't be able to hire anyone. Also the legally minimum benefits are already ages above what you get in the US.
Sounds like a lot of folks at “New” simping for WITCH in this thread. You do you, “New” boo. If you want to go grind yourself up at a soul sucking body shop, be my guest.
Also body shops are universally shit. They hire bottom of the barrel people, lie about their capabilities, lie about the project, and generally fail to deliver what was agreed in the end. Only governments and Boomer companies are dumb enough to hire body shops in the first place.
I worked for a great upper tier smaller consulting company with high standards. Then we got acquired.
Work at home… did you just get acquired, by a body shop mentioned in this post? Then yes, I agree, your shop was the exception that proves the rule.
The consulting industry in general is set up to swindle clients by promising high level experience and expertise to solve impossible problems, then sending fresh grads who make it up as they go and essentially regurgitate existing employees views in a fancy package. It’s mind numbing work for the most part. People used to put up with it for a couple years for the exit opportunities, the pay, and the travel. Then the perfect storm happened. Travel was shut down and hasn’t truly returned, the companies fired lots of people, and even more people finally figured out that tech companies pay better even if you’re not in a tech role. Despite what they’ll tell you, the only people who do well in consulting are people who LOVE selling stuff. If you are able to polish turds and sell them for $20 online, AND make an awesome presentation on why your $20 turd is better than Deloitte’s $20 turd, you’ll make a fortune selling consulting services at a big firm. If you’re not a salesperson, you’re going to peak at the Manager level and get managed out to be replaced by someone bringing in revenue.
Haha I totally agree with you - all true
Can you tell I’m a former consulting PM?
We use them, and we generally get people with little interest in getting better or understanding the needs of the client. You get what you pay for.
When was the last time anybody liked a middleman ? They are a necessary evil that you cannot live without, because they do bring value to the table else the Big 4 would not be there.
Before big tech swooped in, everyone was beating the door down to get into Big 4 or boutique firms like McKinsey/BCG. These days tech pays better with better WLB.
I love it here. I guess it depends on your project but I am well compensated and good work life balance. Mostly. I do span several time zones though because of the need to connect with teams in India and the Philippines so that can sometimes make it feel like the days are long but I’m fully remote (US.)
All the hate is because this is Blind, and everyone sucks unless you’re in FAANG. Also most tech folks here hate on consulting as a whole because it’s a totally different skill set than SWE. Personally I have enjoyed my experience here. However this is a 600k person company, so everyone’s experience can vary wildly. There is a bit of luck as well.

I don't know about Accenture but it's usually not. Americans have a complete different concept of what work should be compared to Europeans...
