Heard from a friend, last week Genentech had a big layoff. I don't see anything about it on Blind, layoffs fyi or anywhere else. Do you know what happened? Due to a reorg? How many were impacted? #layoff
Biotech is getting hit real hard rn
Who else?
Illumina
The layoffs are in a specific group inside genentech, which specialize in IT. The first round was focused on contractors that were superfluous or redundant in nature. There will be two more rounds between now and September or so. Those rounds have a larger scope in IT. Most of the layoffs are a result of a reorg that occurred last year.
Yes. It’s hitting other orgs/groups outside of IT. Think about what happened way back and recently, VV.
They are a member of Roche Group and several other Roche owned companies are doing quiet layoffs. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are.
Heard about layoffs in gRED too
There were ~25 people laid off from research the week before last. I don't know how the company has managed to keep everything going on budget-wise so secret. There was an email addressing the layoffs sent out to all of research, and so far that has been the only real communication I've seen about anything since the budget cuts started in May.
gRED? The sacred cow?
