I left Microsoft to work for a FAANG (not Amazon) and don’t know why anyone would pick another company over Microsoft. The WLB is amazing (outside azure), the unlimited PTO is great, and at least for me the work was interesting. They also allow remote way more than the other FAANGs (if your manager is cool with it it’s no problem). The only reason why I left was TC, but if they can beat current TC why would someone pick a different company over Microsoft? Yoe 5 TC 250

Other companies pay 2x at commensurate level as Microsoft including Amazon. Microsoft pays in some cases lower than Cisco and Starbucks. Every company in Seattle including Expedia, salesforce? eBay can beat their offer by long shot. The only reason people are sticking because of stock growth. If you are level 65 and below you can’t even benefit from it because you don’t have enough holdings. You are most likely broke. Their compensation is below average.
Microsoft can pay well if you get a top tier offer. Know SDE 2’s with huge comp packages. Levels fyi is outdated, when I joined as a new grad with almost no negotiation the offer I got beat Google’s
Their refreshers are admittedly terrible. Nothing a boomerang or SSA can’t fix
