Amazon and Google firing a lot of ppl and the year is just starting. Same as other companies like blackrock, xerox, pizza hut, GM, Twilio, etsy, etc . Will 2024 have more layoffs than 2023?
Fed to cut rates
Upper management will jack up there bonuses with it....not sure if it will help any other folks....
Ya cuz a 0.25% rate cut will instantly reverse the economic trajectory. Not like it takes 6-12 months for it to take effect and rates will still be at historic highs. Edit: recent historic highs - not all time.
2024 would be worse. Not because of higher layoffs but because of less sentiment and support in the market.
For big tech - I'd be surprised if 2024 comes close to 2023, because these are efficiency drive cuts versus running out if money and continuously running mass layoffs would be detrimental to the business For startups / unicorns - 2024 should be much worse. These companies raised huge amounts and many of them were probably holding off on layoffs with the hope of a rapid recovery and new financing round that failed to materialize. Financially, waiting for 2024 was a big mistake, but reputationally - a unicorn running mass layoffs is very risky and I can understand why they would want to stall
Continuous layoffs affect morale very badly. Really hard to work efficiently under such conditions.
I agree. I meta's case, I believe the broad mass layoffs are over, but they now face a branding issue. Every minor layoff (which used to happen without much attention) now gets branded as a continuation of the mass layoffs and it induces significant anxiety
Amazon is also hiring? Doesn't add yo
Gotta backfill the laid off at lower comp 🤷
They are hiring to do layoffs again
2023 is just the beginning
Worst is over
I hope so but we will see how quickly AI will disrupt the economy.
Economy
You mean "not quite record profits"
The current layoff drive is just greed. Most companies want to avoid the March bonuses and want to get as light as possible before fed starts cutting rate in March. It gets better from here.
Evil but makes sense
They have always been evil just not hiding it anymore
No predictions
You don't read the news? Put "layoffs" in Google and get up to speed on the subject
