Hi! I heard rumor that at Amazon if you tell your manager you’ll leave for a competitor (Microsoft, Google, etc), they will ask you to leave on spot/ on that day. Can’t stay for 2 weeks. Is this true? Not planning to tell where I want to go but I also want to be as transparent as I can so I can leave on a good term. I’m in a non-tech role. Thanks!
You're exploring opportunities outside of Amazon. Nothing more
Yes
Is there a tech company that Amazon isn’t competing with?
They will block your access immediately and pay you through the end of 2 weeks.
This sounds pretty good ngl, what's the downside here? That you're burning a bridge with amzn?
Did not happen to me. I told my manager @ Amazon I was leaving for Google, and I still worked normally during the 2 weeks notice period, wrapping stuff up / writing handoff docs.
You won’t be burning any bridges by letting. Them know you’re going to a competitor. It happens all the time and amazon recruits plenty of people from competitors as well (at least they try to). You may get walked out with an extra 2 week vacation and still have the opportunity to return the same as if you didn’t go to a competitor. Even if you don’t tell them which company you’re going to you may get walked out, had that happen to a few friends. For me I stayed a month after giving notice but Apple is one of the few big tech companies who doesn’t have a lot of competition with Amazon.

Yes, this can and does happen
Ah gotcha - so better to not tell where to go next then!
Unless you want a 2 week paid vacation
