I’ve seen a lot of prior posts about how a MS would not matter in SW; however, I’m in FW, and it looks like everyone in my group has at least a master’s degree. My field (wireless) is also favored by people from overseas who come to the US for their graduate degrees. I got my BS from a top school, but I do worry that my lack of a master’s degree will limit my career trajectory. I haven’t hit a ceiling yet, but that’s also because I started at the bottom of the food chain (<2 yoe). I’m at FAANG now, so it’s unclear if it’s worth leaving to pursue a MS. Should I leave FAANG and go back to school for a master’s, or do I just keep grinding? If I do go back for a master’s, is it worth getting one from a mid-tier (top 50?) graduate program, or only for a top program? tc: 125k, outside Bay Area
I have a Masters and do firmware. Believe me nobody cares whether you have a masters or not. All that matters is your prior experience and career trajectory.
