Back in the late 90s and early 2000s outsourcing and loss of software jobs was the talk of the town. Many major news outlets including CNN, FOX, NBC among others used to cover it pretty regularly. People talked about how all software jobs would eventually go to India and other countries. Parallels were made to the steel industry. All this had the very noticeable impact of lower CS admissions in the aftermath of the tech bubble. Then Web 2.0 happened and FAANG happened and we have all these high paying companies. All this has caused pay to rise substantially again in recent times. Do you think a large scale outsourcing to India is on the horizon? To the extent that software jobs will likely disappear in the US? Rationale: The massive influx of Indian immigrants in the late 90s and 2000s means there are Indian origin people with 20 years experience who are in their 40s and maybe wanting to return to stay with their aging parents. High current salaries in the US Recession or inflation placing pressure on companies Explosion in supply of local talent in India (in conjunction with US experienced returnees). Neutral on this. But however all the service sector jobs have the potential to be outsourced. It's a tricky market that companies want to put the dollar where it matters and spend less on the services
No idea. But why will it move to only India. Why not other countries ?
They already have a critical mass and an endless supply. Other low cost countries might also step in.
Big Tech is well established in India and there is a steady supply of engineers of all calibres that can cater to their requirements. India itself presents a fairly large market and building local products while gauging the demand from close quarters present nice opportunities as disposable income of Indians rises.
More like outsourcing to Canada
If most tech jobs go to India, US will become number 2 in tech sector. Will they let it happen?
Greed might make it happen
indians will still be merely employees. the companies would still be american.
India has a lot of garbage engineers. Th good ones are here in the US
Maybe true. But the top 2-3 % are easily enough to replace most American jobs.
The top 2-3 % is like the top 10% here in the us. Also no way the us gonna outsource mass production again after China
It’s not a fixed pie. Software jobs all over the world are booming
Why is that?
Because all companies are becoming a software company otherwise they will be eaten alive by competition
