I understand its a capitalist society but for sure she can find some role in this company Vendr. Another reminder that these companies are not loyal to anyone. Edit: Adding gofundme link if anyone wishes to help her: https://gofund.me/2d25be76
That's terrible, but then you can't mix business and personal right ? The company made a decision to let go of 'n' people based on some metrics for the business to meet their goals, now is it fair to fire someone else who's better at work because of this person's personal life ? Other alternative is to keep this person, but then the company basically has to decide whose personal problems are big enough to not fire them.
So on point!
You’re trying to be logical here, which can work. You’re forgetting the human part that would distinguish you from a machine (talking input, producing output ) Your logic is perfect when you hire machines, yet you’re hiring humans. So yeah, the company should consider her status as a mom/widow in this case.
Bro, your LI pic is visible in the top left, also don't think you should be showing her name
When companies start cutting advertising, DEI goes first.
Exactly
As it should. My own company wastes millions on pretend roles in DEI - multiple VPs, Sr Directors, and like. It's a giant scam.
The lay-off has nothing to do with her personally. I guess that your humanity argument would make slight more sense if the CEO fired her directly.
I heard the severance package offered was absolutely terrible.
Why is one person special that was let go?
I’ve spoken with this women while I was job hunting. She is very kind, so sad to hear this happened to her 🙁
You "understand it's a capitalist society, but" ? No but. That is capitalism. Capitalism without compassion or ethics is just a system of incentives. That's all. It does not care about the parts, just the numbers. Society can and should be more than just capitalist, for this (among many other) reasons.
Very good sentiment @Confluent but it’s difficult to execute. Seems like there no place for compassion in Capitalism.
Amazon, show us the way and compassionately work for free, or compassionately take a pay cut so they can hire more people. Capitalism is fine, the issue people have is wanting to use someone else's money for "compassion" but strangely won't use their own
Capitalism has been destroying humanity for long
Yeah, billions of people don't live in poverty anymore, average life time is not anymore 35 yrs, and more than 50% of newborns survive the 2 months. Bloody capitalism.
Go North Korea and get a taste of communism since you’re complaining about capitalism. Or Russia… or China. Or even Venezuela for that matter… brain dead
I blame those companies for making up those bullshit roles for publicity stunt at first place. If they saved the money making up those roles they probably could have laid off less people.
Correct, just a bunch of made-up jobs for women. Not making this up because those departments are primarily staffed and led by women.
What does people ops and dei workplace culture entail?
Ops stuff could cover a lot - benefits processing, comp analysis/adjustments, running mandatory trainings, processing all the HR bullshit that most of us thankfully don’t have to deal with. Culture stuff is probably more training/polls/crap like that. People shit on HR, but I’m glad I don’t have to do that crap. It’s not like that stuff is ever going away (legal liability and such), and when it’s done properly it ensures we get paid on time, have clear guidance on how to use benefits, and ideally have slightly less shitty workplaces.
@indeed Compensation specialist makes sure that people get paid, legal team takes care of legal liability. Guidance on how to use benefits is one and done task where you put it in a ppt and upload it to share drive. When was last time you interacted with anyone from HR "to improve the workplace"? All I have seen the DEI people do is make up bullshit reports on how woke and carbon neutral the company is.
