I am curious about how is it like working at Yelp. The work life balance, the culture, the coworkers, how often they review and get salary raises? How is the prospect of the company? Thanks for any comments.
Run. Trust me. Run. DO NOT GO THERE. Yelp is a sweatshop and revenue is declining. they fire people easily too.
Hope you did research before saying that. Our revenue is growing. Also, we don't fire people as frequently as LinkedIn :)
This is completely NOT true!
None of my friends who worked at yelp had an easy time getting jobs after. It seemed more of a blemish pn their resume even thougj tjey had busted their butts for the company.
And that's the reason you are still in LNKD as well? Oh sorry I forgot LNKD isn't a thing anymore.
I too haven't heard much about them lately..stock price also down?
yup plummeted by like 30%
work/life balance is great. My manager does a good job making sure nobody is burning out. The people I work with are all super smart and great to work with, though your mileage may vary depending on team. One problem I've noticed, is people are sometimes TOO nice, to the point that it gets in the way. Pay is decent, not fantastic, but also not terrible.
oh, and one thing I appreciate, is there seems to be a focus on empowering engineers to do whatever they need to do. Its very seldom I meet with any red tape.
Work life balance was great back when I was there and everyone was super friendly. Outlook of the company is iffy though since their stock just dropped 30% recently due to slow growth.
I don't think it's possible to find a job this chill anywhere else. Could be good and bad though
I would choose Trip Advisor/Airbnb/Foursquare over Yelp. I have not seen any exciting new products or features from Yelp for 2-3 years. For my work I keep an eye on new innovation in this space and I have to say Airbnb's explore function is quite phenomenal, and trip advisor is much better in i18n markets.
worked at Yelp before Google. honestly, yelp was better in terms of culture, interesting work, work life balance, friendly teams. people were smart too. pay was less than Google but not dramatically so.
We will crush them in their own space in the coming years. Watch out Yelp.
It might be me misunderstood your business model but I don't see you guys are doing our thing.

Work life balance is extraordinarily good. We don't work overtime. Coworkers hang out together quite often. Pay is decent (average). Yelp is kind of at a tipping point where we are building a bunch of new high risk products and it feels like a group of startups, which is interesting. Feel free to PM me if you want to know more.
which team in Yelp?
