Should I leave Amazon for Walmart?
I am actively looking for new opportunities. Being the first generation in the USA (parents from India), I applied to a bunch of small to medium sized companies but I guess considering my last name, the recruiters may think I do need visa sponsorship. Recently one of the recruiters followed up on my application whether I need visa sponsorship or not. That made me think if I should include US citizen in my resume. Any suggestions? Mine is a very common American last name, yet they still ask about my work authorization status

Never seen a resume with work status, though it canβt hurt. Either way, most applications these days have you fill it out anyway. Resumes are dying in tech jobs in favor of forms.
You can also explicitly apply to the roles which require citizenship.
No. That puts your recruiter at risk of a bias claim. Most companies ask whether you require sponsorship during the online application process. Use that form. Recruiters are also adept at reading between the lines. If you've worked for a small local business, or say, have both a Bachelors and a Masters from the US, you're more likely to be an American citizen.
Makes sense. Thanks for input.
Yep, this is true. Equal Opportunity Employment is a thing, and asking demographics and citizenship information is common on almost every application. Iβm a super duper white dude with a very American name. Still get asked this on every application. Itβs standard.
Just put an initial in place of your surname in resume.. Gopal K for Gopal Kumar. Also, I'll put on LinkedIn rather than resume. You never know if they wanted a H1b slave instead of citizen.
Add it near your name at the top.
How exactly?
