https://finance.yahoo.com/news/work-from-home-workers-called-greedy-petty-for-demanding-companies-pay-for-expenses-151555802.html Amazon’s WFH expense policy is ludicrous in my opinion. $75 for a chair and $100 for a desk?? Bezos is getting richer by stealing money from his employees. Amazon is the worst. !! @amazon
What is being disputed here? You're lucky to even have a job, much less being paid 6 figures, especially in a pandemic. If they dont reimburse then at least you tried. Just buy the damn chair and desk and STFU already. People really need to learn to pick their battles.
I see your point but it's a bit harsh to OP. I think if OP had zero passion for Amazon and was just too whiny about chairs, then this is the clarity one should have… That said, there is some truth to OP's point too in the larger context of Amazon being the richest and it's its employees collectively working hard on keeping it so (sure they are getting paid and yes they are working hard for it too). Where is the tipping point when a country should stop saying "just be grateful that you can live on this land" and start acknowledging that people could have a pride for belonging to something they all believe in? Low cost to the employer and immense value to employee, it's such a low hanging fruit IMO.
Maybe Amazon should stop giving RSUs to employees because it’s greedy. Right? Then they can give 1000$ for expenses and everyone will be happy.😉
Why even give $75/$100 if one is lucky to have a job? Why pretend that there is a care? Why even bother? Either do it practically well or don't even bother. I don't like the condescending 🥜s.
Dont read too much into $75/100. OP is just pulling dollar figures out of thin air. There is no "official" hard $$ limit on many things, as its up to manager discrection for WFH reimbursement. My team has had no issue getting stuff approved at the L7 level, not to mention its been what, 7 months of WFH and OP is just now worried about the reimbursements?
Maybe OP just started at Amazon…
And that, kids, is what entitlement looks like.
I got $0 for WFH expenses 😀
Same, but they did send us a monitor
Same, and I shelled out ~$100 for a used monitor because there is no chance of my 20/50 eyesight getting any work done on the tiny laptop they have us using!
Blind (on Tipping, charity etc):- Why should I tip/donate? It’s my hard earned money. I made right decisions blah blah.., Blind(On company WFH reimbursement):- Bezos is greedy. Stealing our money as it comes from our hard work. He’s so rich..why can’t he...
Not very comparable comparisons, IMO. We work for Bezos and expect benefits (like health insurance, 401K match, etc). The other example makes no real sense, though seems comparable in some sense.
Either case you don’t legally owe money but Blinders are quick to take the legally I don’t owe you money stand in one hand while the moral —you’re rich though to pay, don’t be cheap— stand in other.
Wow that’s 🥜 I think we got like $300-$400 and another $300 for headphones. But then again, I can be cheap so my chair is a $8 folding chair from Costco and I have a cheap knockoff standing desk that was less than $200. I guess Amazon employees can buy a $100 desk at IKEA.
Old company let us take our desks and chairs home. Then I got laid off in the spring and I got to keep them. New job got a one time non taxed $200. Other than that, what I’m saving in commuting more than made up for it.
I just want a chair that doesn't hurt my back
Amzn isn't shy about frugality being a core value...
Just go to the office and bring a chair home.
Does VMware allow that?
Of course. Chair, monitor, etc. if you need more stuff there is a vending machine where you just swipe your badge: keyboards, head phones, mice, track pads, cables, etc. Citadel doesn’t allow it?
