Work laptop accident

Accidentally mistook my work laptop for my personal one last night. Watched sexually explicit material (porn) on it for a couple of hours, with the VPN connected, before I realised the mistake. What are my chances of getting fired? Should I fess up to my manager or HR before they confront me?

Google nanithefu Oct 7, 2019

Yea I mistakenly do that every time I travel for work. So many mistakes

Literal LOL

What is wrong with porn? Everyone does/views it sometimes. It would be unethical/hypocrisy to fire you for that.

Not everyone does it. It rots your brain.

I don't know, my brain seems pretty good 😊

As long as it was legal for the site (re over 18, consensual) and not bittorrent, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you don't hear anything about it for the next 3 months, you probably won't ever.

Nothing illegal

Go to HR and check if the porn you watched is on the approved porn vendor list. Be sure to give them detailed description of what you viewed so that they can determine if it fits within company guidelines.

Delete cache and make sure you check your screen before making and presentation. Nothing to worry about.

Diversity and inclusion involves being open to porn.

Informatica 1453 Oct 7, 2019

Make sure you did not bookmark anything; nothing in browser history. Last thing you need is site coming up when you are trying to open wiki on your screen share.

Nothing will happen lol just keep it to yourself

Amazon kdaj384 Oct 7, 2019

You're good. Just delete cache and browser history.

Amazon profsdn OP Oct 7, 2019

How does deleting cache help? I was connected to corp net. They already have access to my history.

So you don’t have a gaffe later during a meeting where you’re sharing your screen and the browser autocompleted the URL. I worked at the company a long time. Unless something changed in their policies over the last year, they aren’t actively tracking employees. It would take an SVP signing an order to actively monitor you which wouldn’t happen.
