Recently got a verbal offer from Workday for P3 SWE in the Data Platform and Observability org. The tech stack seems pretty interesting to me. I wanted to get people’s opinion about few things. 1. How is the culture and WLB at Workday? How are the benefits? 2. Given the current market situation, how is the sentiment inside the company for layoffs etc? It’s important for me since I’m on a visa. 3. How is the oncall load generally? Do Workday employees get paid extra during oncall rotations? The engineers mentioned during interviews that it is low-moderate with no late night calls. 4. How is the offer? Did I get lowballed? Any suggestions? 5. How’s the prospect for stock growth? It is ~40% down YTD. 6. Do they provide WFH setup equipment (monitors etc) along with the onboarding stuff? Any allocated budget? The team said is building a new platform for observability. The HM told me that the team works on Kubernetes, Go, Grafana Labs to name a few. They said they are not using XPresso (their proprietary language). During the interviews the team members seemed nice and technically strong. I want to move to the Bay Area due to personal reasons. Current TC - 180k in Seattle, WA New TC - 300k for first 2 years Location - Palo Alto or Pleasanton, CA Any insights are appreciated especially about this organization or otherwise. With all the layoffs happening, feel blessed that you have an offer and take it !
YOE ?
2.5 years
I got a p2 with 5 yoe! happily take it
That's a pretty decent TC for workday
That’s a very good offer for 2.5 YOE P3
totally take the WD job team+product: good reputation, good tech stack, growing product, internal-facing & recession safe, necessary for future strategic growth plus 160% the money ....
@31105 - Thanks! Any more insights on the organization? Do SWE get paid extra for on-call like Google?
you do get paid extra. it's not very much $, but OTOH incidents don't happen v often. (altho they can, ofc ....)
300K per year for P3? Doubtful! It would be surprising to get that. Would be interested to see the breakdown of base + bonus + rsu. Nevertheless, stability wise company is good. WLB is generally great. On call you will get paid. Everyone in team will take turns. Yes there is some budget for home setup. Not sure right now if that’s still applicable. As long as not in Xpresso, you are good.
Thanks! Will update once get the numbers.
$300k is fantastic! I recently got 270K for P3 with almost 4yoe. Also interested in the answers to your questions, thanks for the post!
Mind sharing the breakdown? Does 270k include RSU refresh?
Yes, includes RSUs.
