Working in Finland

So I was aproached by an indian lady from a recruitment firm (mpower, never heard of them) to offer a job as Solutions Architect in Helsinki (Finland) Salary - as contractor - is 700 euros per day excluding taxes, and the client is Tata Consulting services. Does it sound like scam to you as much as it does to me? (A lot)

These aren’t really scams but are very shitty offers... Here is how things go: some client needs some work done urgently and they willing to pay top dollars. Hiring in nordics is expensive and you don’t get people who are interested in short term gigs. Hence they hire a consultancy/ recruiter. The consultancy or the recruiter profits by filling up a position in time. They have no idea about the job or anything related to the job. Sometimes this job is for one month or sometimes for just 1 week. Or sometimes just 1 quarter. After that no one is there for you to find your next gig. If you are confident on free market gigs, go for it. By this I mean, given a day with no job in an unknown place, how likely are you to find a job and make money almost instantly. If you need someone to search a job for you, look at staying in a consultancy firm like TCS, who brings in clients for you.

Ohh and you manage all the taxes, which can be pretty daring if you move from one country to another. Also remember in nordics you might be paying 50 - 70 percent in taxes and it’s not uncommon.

Tata has big clients in Europe and paid top for the right people. 700 euros day rate in Europe is over average, but taxes in Helsinki are high. What you need to make sure is: Be 100% sure of how will be the contract relationship and what will be your Net paid. If it is Tata client, it will be big brand, and if you do well, you can stay longer 100% sure. Also unless the contract is one year minimum, ask to have accommodation paid (specially in 3 months role)
