How is it like working in YouTube? Is the culture and working style similar to Google at its HQ? What about the company growth prospect for YouTube?
Hated working at YouTube. Much happier after leaving and joining real Google. Extreme open-office arrangement is noisy and annoying. Cafe sucks. Eng levels are very low -- so many people are level 3 or 4 you never have enough senior people to couch for you in promotion. Way too political. PMs run everything but don't have common sense and make dumb decisions. Extreme middle-management churn. One guy I knew had 4 managers within one year.
*vouch, not couch
I work at YouTube, ama. Good. We have to be a least a little similar since we are apart of Google. I never worked outside of YouTube, but from just looking at it I would say it is more laid back at YouTube. Mostly because we don't have to compete to go to lunch and don't have to share desks. We mostly like to market ourselves as YouTube and have our CEO actually knows us. in a sense we are not really a startup but behaves more like it than other Google companies. Growth is the same, but maybe a little easier depending on how you think about it.
what specifically?
