Last year I decided I want to experience all the benefits of fit and strong body and I started working out every day. First it was yoga and stretching (to build some muscles at all since I was starting from zero), then pilates, then HIIT, then some pretty advanced stuff - all from home, following YouTube. I've built some insane (for my standards) physique, could do hand stands, splits, breathed through advanced HIITs, etc. Then I've got sick (probably light form COVID or pneumonia), skipped three days and have never been able to get back to it. Like, some sort of block or something. It's been a year, so I'm back to almost zero again, and I can do at most 2 days in a row and then give up for a month... How do I get back? I liked the way my body worked when it was strong and agile. Advice or theories on why this sudden block appreciated!
Same here. Did it for a whole year and now can't make myself go back to it
Sign up for a 12 week fitness challenge or find one on YouTube?! Lots of free ones. Helps hold you accountable. Start small. Do it for YOU.
Camp gladiator? Group fitness with lots of cool peeps. Make some decent friends at least even if it’s cheesy.
this is on point! I want for a vacation to all inclusive hotel in Turkey with lots of sport games and fitness as entertainment and I loved it. Problem: where do I get friends to begin with? :D
It’s simple but not easy. Just do it
OP, covid makes you weak even after long time of recovery. I used to work out 2-3 hours every day. But after few months of Covid recovery I can do only 30-60 minutes.
Did you grow up with excercise being part of your and your family life? I have not worked out till I was 25, nobody in my family did. I was pretty out of shape, started exercising, did that for 7 years somewhat regularly but never really liked it, was kind of doing it as obligation to myself, always spaced out during workouts... Then got injured once, was out for 3mo and was not able to get back at all for several years, got pretty out of shape again, had a baby, got even more out of shape. It got so bad, dipping into obese bmi... Last year I started meditating and it really helped me to appreciate my body, notice how I feel during and after exercise and start actually liking to excercise. It's not a chore or heroic effort anymore like it once was. Kind of preachy but thought I will share.
This is on point. I never worked out really before that 8 month stride last year. Was even exempt from PE because of a cardiovascular issues and exercise induced bronchitis Hm... this kind of resonates with me that not really enjoying my body also makes me not want to move it around to much. Thanks so much for sharing! Great food for thought!
Sounds like you're overtrained. Look up overtraining syndrome and see if any of the symptoms apply to you.
Looks like that! But i surely must have rested in the 12 months of not working out :(
Doesn't work like that mate. You need recovery from the activities you're currently doing . The rest from when you weren't working out don't carry over. Working out seven days a week is not good. And depending on your age, and intensity of exercise, you may need more days of rest a week. I had to take three months off of all activity to get over my over training.
Try going to an actual gym not exercising from home. It’s a different vibe. Sign up for a class so you create an obligation of having to show up at a certain time. It takes 14 days to form a habit so make it a priority for those 2 weeks.
Never worked for me. I once pre-paid 6 month for a fancy $250/mo membership and then was like "well I already paid these money anyways, it's gone whether I go or not"
Start with an event in mind - like a race. Or join a club/team of some sort - the social aspect is always extra help.
Take a rest week. 4 more days off. Give your body time to recover. Then hit the gym again.
Dude, it's been last year. I've given myself a year to rest. Must be something else :(
Sorry, your post was super long and I missed the last part. Try this, it’s worked for a friend in a similar situation:
