I drive a manual sports car (30-40k worth). and recently 2 days back i have moved to a new apartment complex in the bay area. There were some car break in reviews on Yelp ( in the gated garage) but they were all 4-5 year old and it was a very good deal on paper overall, so I thought the security must have been improved lately. ( it has 3.9 star on google maps and 2.5 on yelp) 😓 I moved in yesterday and the gated garage door was not working. Also I saw some broken glass pieces in the garage. My suspicion was confirmed by the city’s crime map which shows around 20 break ins in 6 months in the area( complex of 900). I did not find this before signing the lease so could not do much about this. But now i feel like shit. Should I break the newly signed lease? Lease break charges are around 4k. Ex uber - Tc 270k
Dont leave anything in the car and youll be fine… people dont usually break into cars for no reason… i had a 85k car in a ghetto part of la parked on the street for 18 months and nothing happened… 30k is cheaper than the price of the average new car lol
As Amazon suggested, never leave anything in the car. And perhaps never park it outside
Don't leave anything in your car and you should be fine. I had a nice sports car in a shitty apartment in college for a few years and never had any issues, even though it was a crime-ridden cesspool. One of the cars I have now is $90k (also manual) but now I own my own home and have a 4-car garage.
Don’t break your lease over this. I had my car broken into 3 times in my life, and always because I left something out accidentally. Glass is easy to replace they won’t steal the car.
When people say don’t leave anything in your car, they do mean anything. Spare change, cables, adapters, dash cameras. Keep it tidy as hell. Bonus if you have a steering wheel lock.
Thieves won’t steal the car, there’s a very very low probability they know how to drive manual even if they could somehow start it
Not the point. It’s to show that you’ve been mindful about keeping the car and your things secured
Make sure your insurance has 0 deductible windshield replacement.
Usually side windows are broken
0 deductible cover that as well. Nowadays they are charging additional fee for this
Break the lease. Move in the car instead of the apartment.
Leave the windows open. Absolutely nothing in the car
Why you didn't read the reviews before signing the lease?
The reviews that mention break ins are 2years old. Guess people just got tired of it and accepted as a day to day occurrence
Buy insurance
I have insurance but feel too attached to the car
It's just glass. Lower your comprehensive deductible to $250
