I can do technical stuff fine, like fixing bugs writing code. As long as work flows down to me, I get tickets on a sprint. Pretty straightforward. I can deliver But at Amazon, what else would I supposed to be doing? Am I going to get random emails about req, designing apps/services from scratch, writing official docs, dunno what else. Do you get assigned stuff or do you have to actively fight for work to do Yoe 7
Deliveries are no joke. How are you at peeing in bottles?
That depends how far the bottle is.
How is your writing? If you want to make it at amazon you need to write good docs. As you become more senior you write less and less code. If you want to just do your sprint tasks and keep your head down you will find it hard to progress past L5. But you’d probably survive fine. A good place to learn if you get a good aws team
Honestly it really depends what org/team/manager you get. There are great teams at Amazon that have good wlb but you’ve heard the other stories… they’re true. I wouldn’t join unless you know someone in that team/org and they can vouch that it’s a chill team.
I actually like Amazon. It's more direct. None of that 'we are family' bullshit. I also find that non-conformity is okay here. You can be disagreeable, in a nice way. If your design is shit and wont work, we can tell you. It's really not difficult in an absolute sense. It's akin to a normal job that everyone living in the real world (as opposed to the tech sis/bro fantasy land where massages are free and naked juice is in the fridge) experiences.
Be prepared for garbage culture. It's corporate version of Hunger Games.
Quit amazon is low tier shitshow.
Politics, deliverables on short timeframes, and lots of writing. Nail those and you will succeed there.
You got to write docs. PERIOD. if you excel in this, you're the golden boy for Amazon.
At amazon, you need to talk to the stakeholders and set the requirement straight yourself. I am not sure what the pm, tpm, and managers are doing at Amazon.
