tl;dr applying to Amazon as SDE through a referral. Would it affect my chances if I apply to another position through a recruiter who reached out to me on linkedin? Long version: I am trying to apply to Amazon as an SDE II. A stranger referred me to AWS, but I was also reached out to by a recruiter for another position (this time at Alexa). a friend (who isn't at Amazon) told me that I should hold off from applying through the recruiter, even if it's for another position at Amazon, because it might mess with the referral process, and that I'll likely be contacted by the recruiter for the specific position I applied to soon anyways. However, this friend later said to "nevermind", since the recruiter is hiring for Alexa and not AWS, and the two are separate, it should be fine. I'll admit, I have doubts about what my friend said. I always thought Alexa and AWS are kinda in the same thing. Can someone please give me some clarity about this? Would it hurt me if I apply to more positions after I got referred? Or would it increase my chances since I'm utilizing multiple channels? Sorry for the long question, but I appreciate any help I can get.
Nope, it's ok.

Amazon recruiting is single threaded. Don't apply to multiple openings. If you don't fit the team or role they will recycle your application internally, or you can ask to be reassign. Multiple submissions will clog something and you may get lost/miss-classified in the system.
So if I get denied, would I have a chance if I ask to be considered to other teams too?
Hiring is a high priority for all. #1-10 aspects are leadership principles. If you aren't already prepped search for a LinkedIn article from Anderson on "how to interview for Amazon". If you showcase LPs and fit the role you are green lit, if you only showcase LPs you will be recycled and get to try again for another team/role. If you don't showcase LPs you are thanked for trying and flagged as 'do not hire' for 12 months. Good luck!

Even though this post actually highlights a broken system, it does provides a perspective that that as an IC writing code is not enough. You need to understand what's going around you and better stay ahead of that. There's a reason you are at Amazon and not at other companies.
I’m guessing it would improve your chances but I’m not certain.
