I would like to hear your opinion about renting a room with private bathroom in a house. Would you rather choose a smaller condo than a larger house? Any concerns about privacy or anything? Is it worth saving the money? Thanks!
I stayed with flat mates for an year. 1/5 won’t recommend. Living by myself for the last 3 years and couldn’t be happier. I make plans to go out every weekend and invite friends over whenever possible. I got my solitude when I need it and my house stays clean.
I’m too old for roommates at this point. Don’t want to deal with that.
How old is that?
Mid 30s. Haven’t had a roommate since I was probably 23.
Depends on roommate chemistry. Honestly it's a crap shoot based on personalities and ideals. Even if you become roommates with someone you know there's things you'll have to compromise on. Sometimes it's worth paying for peace of mind.
Or you can take it as prerelationship training😂
I prefer private bathroom....
Cleanliness is a big part of it. I currently live with rommmates and they don’t clean a single thing in common area. It fucking sucks and makes me wanna move into my own studio or 1 bedroom apartment.
I wouldn’t unless you are fresh out of college with no money and low pay. And even then I wouldn’t...
Depends on how often you're home and whether you're happy to stay in your room or need to roam. If you and your roommate stay in your rooms all the time like me and mine, you won't even notice.
It depends on the housemates. There's a startup cost in finding good ones, establishing cleanliness standards, etc - but I would definitely recommend. You can have a great social base with the right roommates.
Try #vanlife instead.
Not quite vanlife I guess, but when I worked 100% remote for Oracle I lived out of the back of my truck with my dog for months at a time. Drove all around the western USA. Stayed mostly in the wilderness though, not in the city. If I was in town it was because I was visiting friends.
I just made sure I had service during the hours I was working. I had a little prepaid Verizon hotspot puck that I got at Walmart. I never had to hunt too hard for a couple bars of LTE. At worst, I would get close to the nearest little town. I did have to kind of plan my weekdays around anticipated LTE availability.

I don't think there's a general consensus. Level of privacy varies depending on the stage of your life. Straight out of college, I'd probably be fine and few more years in the industry, I'd probably go for a studio instead of a shared room in a bigger house.
