My friends at work speak very fondly about the notion of Hindu Rashtra which I find a bit scary if taken to its logical conclusion because of following things: 1. Religion based government policy: Imagine going from Today -> Beef Ban nationwide -> Non-vegetarian ban -> Vegetarian Biryani ban and so on. 2. Elections will become about religious credentials like Bhopal, a Sadhvi (her major qualification) vs Digvijay Singh from Congress campaigning with a bunch of Sadhus instead of policy debates about economic growth, jobs, environment etc 3. Whenever their is an emphasis on religion, it also leads to focus on the narrow differences: Sunni-Shia conflict in Iraq, Protestant-catholic conflict in Ireland, maybe caste conflict; conflict over the god that you worship etc? 4. More space for religious extremism: 1) Upper caste Hindus were opposed to Sati abolition, 2) Ghoongat in Rajasthan, UP, Haryana is considered essential by religious elders, 3) Manusmriti rules and so on Of course, most of these arguments will probably not find support with Vedic norms but neither will cow-lynchings and yet here we are. What are the good things that I am missing?
No. Ask your teammates to stop wasting time and get to work.
Another 💩 post. India belongs to all
It belongs to all. And some Indians make it sound like it isn't. And that's what the OP is trying to address
kuch bhi.
Such Bullshit!
I’m not Hindu but I’d hate to live in a religious country. It’s ok to have religious people around but if the state is religious it sucks
So many posts about india and hindus is full of misinformation gathered from news articles, have we stopped reading well researched books or we don’t have patience to go deep into anything? There are hundreds of books and youtube videos explaining everything even the issues mentioned above, Do you know what kind of ordeal the lady (sadhvi pragya) went thru? Beef is sensitive issue for hindu faith. Do you know dog and cat meat is banned in usa? A country is not just a place to eat whatever you want, grow up and think more deeply what makes a nation, what is religion, what is different about hinduism. Sweeping generalizations about anything just limit the understanding
Bloomberg you raise issues and don't address them. "Do you know what kind of ordeal the lady (sadhvi pragya) went thru?" Why don't u tell us and also tell us why that's relevant. "So many posts about india and hindus is full of misinformation gathered from news articles, have we stopped reading well research" Why don't u tell us what misinformation and what's the right version of that information? Other points: Cats and dogs aren’t banned for religious reasons. And even if they were USA isn’t the beacon of moral and ethical behavior. “ A country is not just a place to eat whatever you want, grow up and think more deeply what makes a nation, what is religion, what is different about hinduism. “ Speaking of country and Hinduism in same sentence like that implies India is or should be a Hindu country. It isn’t and shouldn’t be. Even constitution says India strives to be a “secular “ socialist country.
Bloomberg is a bhakt and he got 3 likes from other fellow bhakts. Answering questions with questions is an old technique. Why don't you instead just answer them?
This is my problem as well. Too many Indians at work talk like they are bigoted religious zealots.
No. Nobody cares.
I do. Cuz they keep bringing it up. Especially now with Modi at the helm anytime they hear new stuff he does. They can’t stop their smile and talk to people about it. It hurts my ears.
If you stay away from bhakths (sangis) your life will be good.
Yes!! How do people (educated people) even think calling themselves “bhakt” is a good thing let alone appropriate?!? Can’t wrap my head around that.
Unfortunately there are waaaaaay too many of them.

Which large tech companies you think will last 20+ years?
It's 2019, give up the religions all together by now ffs
Personally, I am fine with religious beliefs in personal and shared spaces (it’s deeply tied to a sense of community and culture) but I think religion mixed in with state is a dangerous cocktail.
