What's going on at Xbox? No first party exclusives released in over 400 days. Console sales getting crushed. Is MSFT putting all their chips on making the ATVI acquisition happen, and will focus on execution after? Is strategy then to grow gamepass via PC and streaming?
Even the Xbox network is super slow nowadays. Takes forever to load some (older 🤪) games and with network interactions.
XBox was just a fighting brand to keep Sony from minimize the importance of PCs running Windows as well as a copy protection device in the days of pirated CD. Neither reason is important today. Proof is Steam homepage promoting a sale on XBox Studio games.
++ Gamepass is Xbox’s golden child.
The whole Xbox strategy is taking forever to play out and it seems like there are constantly new stumbling blocks while Playstation keep delivering. The whole Series X/Series S segmentation was probably a mistake. XBox Series X Hardware seems to (again) be more complex than PS5, leading to poorer optimization. Studio aquisitions are taking FOREVER to execute and play-out. Third Party AAA releases have been lackluster in 2022 (and 2023). Corporate leadership of game-studios has (historically) been a failure. No VR strategy on XBox. No mobile gaming solution (Switch/Steam Deck). XBox unsuccessful outside of North America. The only success for XBox has been Game-Pass. But XBox is slowly becoming an almost exclusively North American brand at this point as Playstation continues to execute on its conservative but successful strategy.
The whole SeriesS/X thing was so dumb. Soooo dumb. The hw team made excellent hw with the Series X and then some exec decided "hey make a $300 box as well".
Xbox is fine, their game pass and cloud gaming play is more interesting than most of what the other players are doing. They are playing the long game.
oculus is taking over
lol me and my friends all got quests and all stopped using them after the novelty wore off it’s just not as relaxing as regular gaming
They're playing games with gaming software. Anyone that tells you otherwise is either uninformed, a zealot or paid xbox influencer. 400 days without a AAA first party title and no single well done AAA first party title since launching a new generation of gaming hardware 3 years ago. Its terrible
It’s not intentional though, just failures
Its not intentional but maaan has it been so obvious. There’s a large group of paid influencers who stop anyone from constructive criticism. So Xbox is the only platform that celebrates its software failures all in the name of positivity. We were told to be patient 600 days ago and have gotten almost zero decent AAA first party titles
Next is having on playstation nintendo and all devices.
Interestingly there are some MSFT first party games on Nintendo Switch, like Ori.
Although Microsoft published Ori 1 for Switch, and Ori 1 and 2 for Xbox, Moon Studios is not owned by Microsoft, making them a second party developer. And Ori 2 Switch was published by iam8bit…
