Yelp folks this one's for you. A friend of mine recently got an offer from Yelp UK for a data analytics profile. He's been offered IC3 role but he didn't check with the hiring manager what IC3 means seniority wise and how long it takes to get promoted to IC4. He's joining in 2 months so wants to understand this ahead of it. Any feedback will be helpful. Yelp offer Base: £70k RSUs: $150k over 4 years Joining/Reloc: None #dataanalytics#businessintelligence

Depending on who you ask, the prevailing mapping is that IC3 is senior, IC4 is staff. You can do IC3 to IC4 in a year if you’re an extremely high performer or you can be terminal IC3 if that’s the highest level you’re capable of performing at. IC5 is rare and made up of a small pool of the highest performing engineers at the company, so for the vast majority IC4 will make up the most senior engineers in your org.
You can stay on IC3 and no need to go for 4. But if you do want go for 4, depends on the opportunities in your team or group, and EM’s willingness i guess.
$150 that’s a lot of RSUs
Thanks Einstein. Edited.
