With a lot of companies / teams following agile, what is your general opinion on stand ups. For the purpose of this poll let us assume that the stand ups are well run. Please post what you like or don’t like in the comments. Tc : 500k Yoe: 15+ #FAANG #softwareengineer #software
I think they make sense on very well scoped projects but imo they are a total waste of time and people often work on stories for longer than estimated and the “agile kanban board” becomes kinda diluted or useless. And updates sound repetitive for most standups
Am scrum master. Everyone hates it. So we keep it super short and sweet. Scrum is flexible, you don’t have to follow the guidebook to the tee
Why do scrum masters act like it has to be done at all costs? If everybody hates it, how about getting rid of it altogether instead of keeping it super short and sweet?
Helps with concentrating energy on the project. We’re talking 5-10 mins max for the whole stand up. Not much time to give up
Fully depends on the project and team, but a well run one with a lean team they're very useful.
It allows me to stand up instead of sitting on my chair
Most companies don’t actually do Agile, they schedule meetings they don’t really understand the purpose of, give them Agile-like names and call it Agile
Standups do more harm than good. They are essentially a daily interview for your own job. If you think you aren’t being compared to your coworkers, think again.
Scrum stand-ups suck, SHORT daily syncs are good
Literally every company I’ve worked with had an meeting called agile stand up and they just go around the room blathering on about whatever gripe someone has for 30-40 minutes
That's the worst, we put a 30 second timer once
